Steven Ludtke is a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. He also codirects the National Center for Macromolecular Imaging, and the CIBR (Computational and Integrative Biomedical Research) Center at BCM. He received his Ph.D. in 1996 in Physics from Rice University, studying peptide-lipid interactions under the tutelage of Huey Huang, before moving into Cryo-EM research with Wah Chiu. His group develops the EMAN software suite as well as studying diverse biological systems including membrane proteins such as Ca++ release channel and IP3 receptor and investigating the biophysics of peptide/lipid interactions. EMAN is now the most widely used software suite for Electron Cryomicroscopy data processing, used in producing over 550 of the the structures in the EMDatabank, including both single particle reconstruction and subtomogram averaging methodologies.
